Awhile ago I made crayons for Lena. I had a bag full of old broken crayons. I peeled off the paper, organized them by color and baked them in silicone muffin cups at 275 degrees for about 30 minutes. I have always loved melting crayons. Drawing on hot plates and putting them on the window sill in the summer as a child, sorry Dad! I love the way it smells and I have always been color-crazy, so I loved making Lena her own crayons. I am happy to say that she is finally old enough to use them! And she loves them, most of the time.
We use these crayons the most when we eat out at restaurants. The Crayon Pack, as we call it.
We use an extra sunglasses bag to hold:
/the crayons
/washi tape
/strips of already cut paper
Creating our on-the-go Crayon Pack.
Pretty dang simple! And a life saver. At a restaurant table, or just on her little tray, I tape down a piece of paper and Lena can scribble away. The washi tape peels off pretty easily and it also doubles as another fun table project of peeling and picking at the tape.
Being in a sunglasses bag, it takes up very little room in my purse. And can sometimes actually keep her busy until the food arrives and we can all eat together. This being One Year old is pretty magical stuff. We get to read constantly, make up new games together, fall down the slide at the park, and try new activities all the time. Her capabilities amaze me daily. Her needs and the types of toys she prefers are changing. She likes little, holdable items. Things that open, shut, can be organized and placed inside of. She loves her music class, dancing and bopping her head. She picks out a different stuffed animal to hold every time she wakes up or goes on a walk. She will take every sock out of her drawer and then put them all away again. She will even help put her toys back in their basket, until the desire to play becomes too strong. I found a piece of mail with the pots and pans and a toy in the potato bag. She calls me Mama all the time now, will tell us when she is hungry or thirsty, blows kisses like they're going out of style and has whispered a small "dank oou" (thank you). Be still my proud Mama heart. It's exciting times over here and I am loving every moment of it. But I'm lucky really, I have an amazing daughter that makes life easy to enjoy. And the sweetest husband who loves and supports us both. I am so honored to be your Mama, Lena. I cannot wait to learn more from you!
